The Workgroup Practical Astronomy of the KNVWS 't Gooi
The Workgroup Practical Astronomy (Werkgroep Praktische Sterrenkunde or WPS in Dutch) is responsible for organizing many of our activities, including the Star Parties, many of our educational outreach activities, our presentation evenings and our website. The meetings are held on Thursday evenings, once every 4 to 6 weeks in the period September to June, at 20:00 in the elementary school C.B.S. " de Ark", Salland 2 in Huizen.
The meeting itself is held in Dutch. However, during the second part of the meeting, we tackle the more practical aspects of our hobby and share information with each other. Should you have any questions about things like a newly acquired telescope, or perhaps your first attempts at astrophotography, you are more than welcome. As you have probably discovered, nearly everyone in the Netherlands speaks quite good English, so language is not a problem. And should you be interested in helping with any of our activities, we would be delighted.
If the sky is clear, which is unfortunately seldom the case, we do bring telescopes and attempt some observations on the playground behind the school.
