Become a member of the KNVWS 't Gooi
The Royal Netherlands Association for Meteorology and Astronomy, 't Gooi Chapter (or De Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging voor Weer- en Sterrenkunde (KNVWS) afdeling ’t Gooi in het Nederlands) is an association for everyone with an interest in these subjects, particularly amateurs. The accent is on astronomy, with attention to meteorology, climate and climate change.
The main purpose of the association, both nationally and locally, is to increase popular knowlegde of astronomy through activities such as star parties, lectures, courses, presentations for schools & clubs, and various workgroups. Most of our activities such as the lectures and star parties are accessible without charge, or at the most, a slight fee to cover expenses.
We hope to continue this policy as long as possible, but that can only remain so thanks to the support of our members. For only €8,= per year, you can become a member and support our work. Additional donations are also always welcome. To become a member of the KNVWS 't Gooi, send an e-mail to the club secretary including your name & address. We will also be happy to answer any questions you may have about the club.
Activities for members include our lectures, generally given by professional astronomers, 8 times per year, our star parties and various working groups. You will also receive our quarterly newletter (in Dutch!) and be able to join all workgroups without charge.
Become a member of the Workgroup Practical Astronomy
The Workgroup Practical Astronomy (Werkgroep Praktische Sterrenkunde or WPS in Dutch) is responsible for organizing many of our activities, including the Star Parties, many of our educational outreach activities, our presentation evenings and our website. The meetings are held on Thursday evenings, once every 4 to 6 weeks in the period September to June, at 20:00 in the elementary school C.B.S. " de Ark", Salland 2 in Huizen.
The meeting itself is held in Dutch. However, during the second part of the meeting, we tackle the more practical aspects of our hobby and share information with each other. Should you have any questions about - for instance - a newly acquired telescope, or perhaps your first attempts at astrophotography, you are more than welcome. Language is not a problem. And should you be interested in helping with any of our activities, we would be delighted.
KNVWS members who would like to join the workgroup may send an email to the coordinator, Hans Keuning. (More about the WPS... )
